Planting the Black Poplar
Website by Sally Harrington and Tony Dawes
On Sunday December 26th, 2017, a black poplar was planted on the meadow. Sue Hooton, the County Recorder for Black Poplars for Suffolk Naturalists Society (who also grew the tree), told us about the poplars and how rare they were. At one time they were grown for their timber which was used in building construction. The Mayor of Bungay, Mary Mathews, started the planting and then said a few words to the assembled Falcon Meadow supporters who were then invited to move some earth and to do some watering.
